The west coast of Scotland has a rich maritime heritage including shipbuilding on the River Clyde, the lifeline ferries and the military muscle. Most of the shipyards are a distant memory but what is left is best be appreciated by taking a cruise 'doon the watter' from Glasgow City Centre on the steam-driven Paddle Steamer Waverley. I make no apologies for the predominance of Waverley photographs in this section as there is no finer way to admire the Clyde – and the Western Isles - than from her wooden decks to the rhythmic beat of her paddles.
