Electric arc welding clevis pins on Port Askaig Pier, Islay. Note that you should never, ever look directly at the arc as the intense, invisible blast of ultra violet light can cause painful and lasting eye damage. I think I appreciated the efforts of the other workman to get in the way and protect me in spite of my protestations that I knew all about arc eye from my own pitiful attempts at welding. I used the excellent EVF on the Fuji X100 to shield me.

Taking a break from stoking the boiler at Papplewick Pumping Station. Selective colour has a Marmite-like following; you either love it or you hate it. I hope you'll excuse my use here as whilst the black & white image does a good job of emphasising the gritty textures it loses the comforting and snoozing-inducing warmth from the grates.
Barge 'AMT Trader' passes under the Forth Bridge en-route to Rosyth Dockyard. She is carrying Lower Block 3 (LB03), part of the Royal Navy's new aircraft carrier HMS 'Queen Elizabeth'. LB03 was built at Govan on the Clyde and tips the scales at 8000 tonnes.

The demeanour of this Beamish tram driver fascinated me, oozing solemnity and pride. He is at the controls of ex Blackpool tram number 31 built in 1901.
Triple F1 drivers champion Jackie Stewart re-united with his Tyrrell 001 at Knockhill Circuit in 2006. I am too young to remember his racing career but as an ardent F1 fan this sight brought a lump to my throat. A legend, a hero and a Scotsman.
